UNIVERSITY students are to hold an arts festival with more than 30 events staged over three weeks

The third Durham Festival of the Arts, produced by students from the university’s Music Durham and Durham Student Theatre, starts on June 2.

Organisers say the festival, which will involve more than 300 performers, will be the biggest yet and includes concerts and exhibitions in the city’s castle, cathedral, Gala and Assembly Rooms Theatre.

Opening the festival on June 2 is Land of Hope and Glory, a celebration of British music held in Durham Cathedral.

It will also include productions as varied as The Canterbury Tales at the Gala and Blackadder at the Assembly Rooms.
