THE A19 has reopened following a four-vehicle accident earlier this morning.

The A19 northbound was closed between the A1018, at Seaton, to the A690 Durham Road, Herrington Interchange, following the crash.

All lanes have reopened but traffic in the area is still slow.

A spokesperson for Go North-East said: "Accident northbound on A19 north of Dalton Park interchange.

"Traffic tailing back towards Easington.

"Service X9 diverted from Littlethorpe towards Murton and Houghton, whilst X10 diverting off from Dalton Park, then Houghton back to A19.

"Southbound as yet is unaffected."

There were also delays in Sunderland after a lorry suffered a tyre blow-out.

The tyre blow-out caused the onslip from the A183 northbound near Sunderland to be temporarily closed whilst the tyre was repaired.
