PEOPLE can have a look around a community hall and find out more about its history during an event taking place as part of the national heritage open day scheme.

The Shakespeare Hall in North Road is taking part in the event next Thursday.

Historian and author Ross Hamilton will give a talk about North Road in the 1870s at 10.30am.

It will be followed by a talk about the history of the Shakespeare Temperance Trust at 10.50am and another talk about the Durham Community Association, which celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, will be given by David Lindley at 11.10am, followed by a tour of the building.

The sessions are repeated between 2.30pm and 4pm.
