MOUNTAINEERING firefighters raised £3,500 with their ninth annual black tie cabaret ball.

The Fire and Ice team, from the County Durham brigade, held the event at the Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham City, and gave it the theme Olympic Gala Dinner Dance.

Two hundred and fifty guests attended and enjoyed an introduction by pipers from Houghton Pipe band, a slide show of the team’s mountaineering exploits and entertainment including compère Stephanie Davies, of Laughology, music from Dave McKenna and the Mike Watson Band, and the Hi Lights Disco.

Organiser John Robson said: "The Fire and Ice team also provided a series of interesting and highly amusing unusual Olympic events, such as unsynchronised dancing, unconventional field events and alternative floor gymnastics.

"The aim of raising valuable funds for local charities was also achieved with the Fire and Ice mountain raffle and auction, which attracted lots of interest and raised £3,500.

"The photographs on display in the reception areas included not only the high altitude mountainous areas the team climb around the world, but also the good work achieved with local charities and schools.

"The Fire and Ice team will donate all proceeds to local charities at their annual Charity Give Away evening in October when guests will have the opportunity to listen to the teams adventures and view the wonderful high altitude photographs."

Fire and Ice thank all their supporters, contributors and guests.
