DURHAM’S Georgia O’Connor will attempt to add to her burgeoning medal collection when she competes in the Junior Women’s World Boxing Championships that begin in India this weekend.

The teenager, who is the reigning national champion, achieved one of the biggest successes of her career earlier this year when she won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

She has also won medals at the Junior European Championships, and the Worlds will be one of her final opportunities to impress at junior level before stepping up to the senior ranks.

A student at Durham Johnston Sixth Form, O’Connor is regarded as one of the most talented young female boxers in the country, and is already part of the GB elite set-up based at Sheffield.
